Hi
I'm Simon and on Tuesday I picked up my shiny new (well new to me) Range Rover 3.0TD HSE. It's a 2006 on a 55 plate (reg Jan 06) and for the last couple of days I have been really pleased with it. That is until today when the key fob zapper would not open the door. I tried the other one and the same thing. The red light on both the fobs flashes and they both worked yesterday so I don't think it's the fob batteries. When you unlock with the key only the drivers door unlocks and the key will not start the car, in fact not only that but it would not turn in the ignition lock. I suspect therefore that the battery is flat as a pancake!!

Now previously I had a 1996 P38 Range Rover and had a similar problem. That turned out to be a common fault (although the main dealer tried to make out they had never heard of it) and that was the transceiver for the key fob was picking up stray signals and therefore the engine management system was not going to sleep and draining the battery overnight. A new transceiver operating on a different frequency was fitted and the problem was solved.

My question therefore is do these later Range Rovers also suffer from the same fault or is it likely that I have just been unlucky and have a duff battery?? Not checked the battery yet as the motor engineers I usually use are now not open until Monday.
