Just fitting a replacement alternator to my TD5. The problem is the oil drain hose coming from the bottom of the alternator. The metal pipe is facing upwards managed to fit it but the pipe is going up then down to the engine block it also has a slight kink which I would think would reduce the flow of oil. Any ideas what to do.

Are you sure ?

1)remove viscous fan
2)take off the aux belt
3) take the wires/hoses off
4) 2 big bolts hold it on

new copper washers and check your brake fluid level when done.

Did you check the "new " alternator was in exactly the same orientation as the old one?

Is the replacement a brand new alternator? Did it come with the vac pump fitted? or did you fit it?

Hi Dragonwalker
The old one is off and the replacement is on. Its the oil drain hose seems at the wrong angle forced the small pipe from the engine to the alternator. The metal pipe from the bottom of the alternator is facing upwards and not straight out.

Had to send the old one off as it failed during the warranty period so could not check.

If you look at rave these is a nice pictue of the alternator,

Sounds like yours may have been assembled wrong. ( if that is possible???) I have never taken one apart to see if it can be misaligned.

Neilly thanks for the help, we printed that off. If you look at M86 4486 item 6 oil drain pipe instead of pointing to 4 o clock its pointing to 2 o clock. I think its a case of incorrect assembly.

Can you disassemble and re-align? I would also phone the supplier for a rollicking......
