Just fitted a new lift pump and the car fired up OK but after approx 10 seconds started to die, the engine keeps running but when you press the accelerator it doesn't rev?

Please help..I need to get to work tomorrow :(

Hmm..just noticed a burning smell from the lift pump area and a few whisps of smoke..not sure about the cam on the lever? I just put the pump in, how can you tell it's over the cam?

I 'think' I got the pipes the right way, top one to fuel filter.

Just took the new pump off again and found that the new gasket is covered in oil, only thing that I can think of that I wasn't happy about was that I couldn't get all of the old gasket off completely, would this cause the starting issues though?

Please help...I'm really struggling now!!

Car is starting and sounds like normal idle for about 20-30 seconds then it starts clattering and sounds completely different, it remains running though. Sounds really bad once the 'normal' noise stops, plus everything starts shaking like mad...have I killed it then?

you may fitted poor new pump ,you can tell when pump is been fitted properly as will need to be pushed against spring in pump to fit up,if not getting good airless fuel supply will run rough

Thanks, I've refitted the new pump and I need to press down slightly to align the bolts and could definately feel resistence from the spring on the lever, but no joy, still starts OK then 20 seconds later sounds like a bag of spanners...

Couple of questions if I may, would the pump be drawing in air if the seal on the gasket was not good? I've undone the bleed screw on the fuel filter and pumped the lever but no fuel appeared? I'm completely goosed, going to try the old pump back on tomorrow...
