Thought it was about time i started looking at taking my 200tdi 110CSW to more interesting places, and it raised a few questions about wading. obviously there's the axle and transmission breather pipes and raised air intake. the real question is, how do i waterproof things like the battery box, is there any way of making the bottom of the doors watertight? is there anything i've forgotton?

It's a defender as long as you get no water in engine or gearbox you SHOULD be able to drive it out and the water will fall out.
 
Why do you want to seal up the door bottoms? If the whole vehicle is water-tight then it won't sink which means you won't have any traction and then won't go anywhere...

There is no need to waterproof the battery box, some challenge trucks run sealed fuse boxes but i've never had any problems with a standard one.

You will need to fit and seal your snorkel
Fit axle/gearbox/transfer box breathers
Fit wading plugs to timing case/bellhousing
Some people fit fuel tank breathers also

Oh and remove your carpets, they smell horrible if left soaking for a few days. :doh::rolleyes:

I find that seals generally prefer open water rather than muddy ditches, so I think you are raising erroneous problems the OP does not need to worry about:)

p.s I also think you're talking bollocks:D
