Now that's an interesting point, but if I stick to diesel, as I would, what's the 6 cylinder BMW diesel like, the one that's in a P38?? It doesn't look especially powerfull??

the bmw engine is a good lump, but in std form its under powered.
chipping them is money well spent! more power/torque and more mpg FACT!
i have a 1994 modded 300tdi and a 1999 p38 dse with a spider system chip as you can read in my sig. there both a pleasure to drive now compared to std auto motors..i love the disco but the ranger gets my vote every time, i let swmbo drive the disco :eek:
 
Id go V8 on gas,its way cheaper than any doisel to run and boy do they shift.Ive a 4.0 and it flies also returns an equilavent cost to doisel of 35mpg.It will also be cheaper to buy.
 
i like me boot space and so does the dog lol
and been there done that with lpg in me other classics, headgaskets and liner issues + another thing to service and keep check on.. i like me smokey rattlers now lol and me p38 turns out 35mpg on motorway...

I'm pleased that you are happy with your motor, but to be honest I'll be sticking to diesel - it's what I know:eek::):D
 
i can tell yu the GMC 6.2 v8 n/a is a **** hot lump,its heavy but it pulls like a train.my mum had one in a rangy 5 door classic.it had a full stainless exhaust system and it went like fuk!it sound better than any petrol v8 iv ever heard,yu dint need 1st gear just pull off in second.and it would beat most things from the lights!i luved it but wen she sold it i couldnt av afforded to insure it or i'd av bought it mi self.

my mate had the 6.2 in his classic. tbh i thought it was just **** lol not **** hot! and so did he in the end,thats why he sold it and lost a fortune on it and it took him ages to sell it with roody great lump in it! yes it did have loads of torque BUT it cost him a fortune to buy it. then there was all the work to make it fit! IE: custom made exhaust/ heavy duty suspension to cope with the weight of the bloody thing/then he had to have the gearbox modified too. and all for what? it sounded like a double decker bus,drank loads of fuel, and smoked like a chimney...

it was a full re-con lump £1,800 out the usual LR mag
he used it for pulling his boat but my classic v8 was more economical than that,prob cos it was 1/2 ton lighter lol and they are not as quiet or smooth as v8 petrol.. so ner ner ner ner ner lol :D:D
 
A good straight six engine is always in better balance than any V-8.

The V-8 is two fours on the same block, and still suffers the balance problems of all 4 cylinder engines.

A straight six is two THREE cylinder units end to end, and is in almost perfect balance static and dynamic right from the start.

I can hardly wait for the arguments .....

well i i'd bought a re-con engine fa £1800 and then found out it ran like an old bus and smoked like a chimney,i'd be sending the fuker bak!............................so there!!then again some folk ul accept owt.

its an old v8 diesel so its gunna sound like a bus full stop!

unless you want a towing drag race no need for a huge oil/fuel burner
the 2.5 does exactly the same! not as powerfull but will still pull the max towing weight and get you from a-b cheaper..
6.2 is pants ner ner ner ner ner back at ya and tell ya mom the same :p

ya never gunna get a quiet 1 ever ever ever! its a bloomin diesel fcs
and my mom had 1 too and she said them pants anurl :p
