Hi

I fitted a new power steering pump a few months ago,
at slow speeds the steering is quite heavy, feels like the pump isn't doing it's job properly, but it does'nt make any sort of noise. The steering box was adjusted around the same time.

So doe's this sound like the pump has failed or the box is on it's way out?

Thanks

the fluid level might be low, there might be air in the system that need bleeding out, or the box might have been over adjusted (which can make the steering stiff).
does the steering self-centre OK or do you have to "help" it?

Thanks for the replies

The Fluid isn't low, I wouldn't say that the steering particularly self centres itself, but it's been like that for a while. Would this mean that the box is too tight?

So maybe it is a worn belt, how often do they generally go any idea's? I put a new 1 on bout year an 1/2 ago I reckon!

yes, the box might be a bit tight. try backing it off a little bit at a time.
belts last years, providing the tension and alignment is correct. for the cost of a new one, it would be worth changing it if in any doubt.

Ok cheers, I'll try backing the adjustment back off abit.
It's got self tensioning tensioner on the belt, but will change that as well i think.

Do you think I'm likely to do any damage to the box or pump, I'm not going to be able to do anything with it for a few day's?
