Good evening. does anyone have any experience on converting to power steering in a1984 Land Rover 90

In the absence of a better reply, and never having done it, anything can be accomplised 
All depends how much work you want to do
Be patient with me, I have been away from land Rovers for a few years now, my last one was a 2000 MY TD5 110 Defender, sold that around 6 years ago
Lets look at a DIY level "bolt on" upgrade ..............
If I were you I would start by comparing pictures of the Range Rover Classic / Discovery 200 TDI PAS box, to your own .............
If the fittings (3 bolt) plus the column and drop arm splines look the same that's a good start
Next up which Engine do you have ? See if the same Engine came on another model with PAS, if so that is what to source Pump, Pulleys and Belt from ...............
Pipes can be made up by any Hydraulics Shop, ask a man with an Excavator who he uses
Buy rubber lined Stainless P Clips to secure the pipework
Buy the easily available round black ZF Reservoir from BMW / Discovery 1 etc ............... Jobs a good un
Keep us posted, interested in the results

I have looked at the number of splines. The number of bolts. Which is a 4. And so far I am confident of. Decent result. my skill level is good with a spanner and a lots of help from others who have done this. Beadmach. LR parts. Craddock spares and no one was even decent enough to even remotely put forward any help.
I have taken on this project with little help so far and my results have been outstanding.
a rear half chassis replacement. And all the usual software that comes with getting it through a mot with no advisories.

Had a very busy few months at work. So not much done on the landy. I have bought the steering pump. The hoses and the. Brackets to convert the alternator bracket to accommodate the new pump.
All these have been taken from a 200 tdi. only thing left to purchase is the steering box. Then it’s fitttjng time.
hopefully all the bits will fit together.

Hi ya Dave.
So far I have had success. New steering box bought. And fitted. New steering joints done. The new bracket fitted nicely with not as many bolts lining upon the block as I would of liked But hey. the bracket fitted nicely in line for the rear new pump and alternator. I didn’t use a 2 nd smaller belt. As it lined up so well I just bought a longer belt. The new resevoir is in. And all the new hydraulic pipes are in apart from the. Pump to the box. For some reason the pipe supplied didn’t have the correct fitting.
I tried the local hydraulic people but after a wait they didn’t have an adaption for different threads I have to wait a few days for them to modify. I have everything back in place. And bolted in. The engine runs lovely. The belt is a wee bit slack so have to. Adjust slightly. But I ll do that when the pipe comes back.
I am very pleased with the result. I haven’t driven it yet as there is no hydraulics. And I don’t want to run the pump dry. super excited to see the end result.

Just so you know the power steering belt goes on bottom pulley only.
Then there is a separate belt for the alternator & water pump.

So just looked at my disco engine
belt goes bottom pulley,power steering(front grove) then to water pump.
Alternator goes from rear grove in the power steering pulley
belt goes bottom pulley,power steering(front grove) then to water pump.

I'm doing more Welding today, next MOT is end of February 22, the bad Chassis rot has all now been done, and I'd like to get another 18 / 30 Months outta this old girls Chassis I'm just doing all the tidying up bits like in between the rear Body Mounts etc now, and as I had the Exhaust off today I decided to do those little plates while it was on the lift
Then at the 18 month mark I'll make the decision whether to fit this one with a 2.2m half Chassis, Full Galvanised Chassis or buy another D2 and do a ground up build based on a full Galv Chassis, or by then I might not even need a Disco Towing Vehicle
I've refurbed most of the running gear now, and will have done all soon, once the last few bits arrive
PO had a 2003 low mileage Engine fitted with it's ZF Auto, Body shell is pretty solid and Interior is good
I guess I just love saving old Sh!t from the scrappy doo

My D2 is my first D2, and I haven't had other Landys for a few years now, 2x RRC, 3 D1's and a Defender so I'm on a learning curve too D2 wise
Last one was my 2000 MY Defender 110 TD5 Manual, which IIRC I sold around 4 - 5 years ago I didn't have to do much Mechanically to that one, it only had 34,000 miles on it, I got it cheap off Mountain Rescue when they got 2 new Defenders because it needed a load of Chassis welding, rear end and all outriggers plus bottoms on all 4 Doors and a new Rear Door
I'm an expert at Weldathons

I have a cousin who is the nuts at welding. But man he is a busy boy. Like you. I fine with every day stuff and more.
The project has been fun. I haven’t done this much mechanic stuff since I was 25.
Land Rover now looks splendid. Just for a laugh I replaced the windscreen seal as it was perished and leaking. bet ya can’t guess what happened. Yep. The last hurdle going round the corner for a home finish. And I was being so careful.
