Ive just bought a seal kit for the steering pump for my early 90. Ive got the pump off but how does it come apart? Is it easiest just to pull the pulley of and replace the lipseal ? thanks steve

I've just done this job, if your pump looks like this one then this is how it comes apart.

Remove the pulley wheel by unscrewing the 3 bolts (not shown on pic)
Use a puller to remove the triangular flange (it is held on with friction and may be very tough to remove)
undo the big (21mm?) screw on the rear and make a note of where the washers go.
Remove the plastic cup on the front that keeps stuff out of the spindle
remove the wire keep from under the plastic bit you just took off.
Now the tricky bit.
Get a mate to help hold the pump horizontal on a bench, take a solid, big flat bladed screw driver and use a hammer to knock the inner cast bit out of the surrounding case. I found it took a while as I was not too rough and had to keep rotating the unit and striking from a different location.

It was a bit of a job and getting the right seal kit was a pain. The one I got from Paddocks had the right seal for the case, but not for the spindle, that I got from Eblag. When I put it back together, the spindle was stiff, but after a bit of oil was added and a pair of mole grips added, I got it to move more freely. I fitted it yesterday and all seems well.
