On my 4.0 p38 I have 2 pipes coming down from a black bottle next to the rad on the right as you look at the engine. They seem to be leaking quite badly from around the metal rim where they are connected to the rubber pipe

soo I have 2 questions

1, Are these pipes able to be fixed

2, if not, which is what I suspect, where is the best place to buy new ones and what might they be called??

They seem to be quite long, rubber at the top which connects to the bottle but then they seem to be moulded into a metal pipe further down, I'm guessing I would need to change this whole thing?

i take it you are not as lucky as i was on my old 88 3.5, mine was just the pipe clips were not done up tight enough.(the one's under the bottle)

Unfortunatly not :(

Mine actually seem to have gone where the pipes go from being rubber to metal, nightmare!

Hopefully if the rain holds off tonight I will be able to get under there and see where the pipes split!

on my 4.0ltr p38 , when i first bought it, (8 years ago) the steering, axle, sump;etc were covered in oil, cleaned it all off, and kept checking to find out where leak was coming from, slight leak but big mess, but all oil levels were right. found out that it was the oil cooler pipe, had it replaced (approx £18+ labour) everything still clean as a whistle even now.
as for your steering.
as long as you keep checking the level and not let it go below min on dipstick, you should be ok for driving it. if it gets all over the belts, it would be advisable to change them after you have changed the pipe/pipes.

the engine oil filler is the cap on the, right rocker cover, yellow or black
the auto gearbox filler is at the back right side of engine, yellow
the power steering filler is top of bottle, front right, black
the washer bottle filler is front left, yellow
the radiator filler is on expansion bottle back left
the brake fluid filler is back left
most used of all, the fuel filler is on the back wing drivers side

Cool, thanks, The oil cooler then, is that for the autobox or the engine oil??

Sorry, this thing is a bit bigger tahn I'm used to dealing with lol

The pipes to the steering reservoir are not under any great pressure and hose suitable for use with oil, secured with Jubilee clips would be o.k.
Both oil coolers are prone to leakage (Engine oil is at the top and auto transmission below it), they are fitted to the engine rad.-sandwiched behind the aircon. consenser (With two electric fans mounted). The coolers are around £120 each, have a look on Rimmer Bros. website. Spurious cooler hoses are available from Island 4X4.
