Hi Guys

For years I have loved the land rover brand and have wanted to dip my toe into ownership but have never had the right oppotunity. Now I have some spare cash, albeit not a lot, I'm considering purchasing a half decent example and spending a little cash here and there and bringing something back up to decent condition.
I only have £1000 to spend so I thought I'd get your views on what would be a good base model. I'm going to need the car for a 3 mile daily drive to the station and the odd hack of a weekend in the country with the wife, kids and dog.

I'm not after a mean greenlaner just a decent countryside mobile which has some off road statue

I'm guessing my options are a poor condition early Disco and the same condition Freelander. I do like both models but I wanted peoples thoughts and what you recon my best option are????
P.S Are the 1.8 petrols a big no no?????
Please be general with me

Ok now I've mopped me tea up.......

With the best will in the world...... save up a bit longer and make sure you get a good un ;)

:welcome:

If that's all you can afford to spend, the question is, how good are you with getting your hands dirty?

A grand'll get you a disco that will want some welding for its next ticket or a road legal rolling restoration series. A k series gaylander with issues will cost more in repairs compared to either

lol thought that might be the general answer, I can dip a little more into my savings but nothing over £2k or the missus will flip

As has been said

If ya can roll yer sleeves up n rapair one that int too bad, jobs a goodun.

Have a butchers at the what to look for when buying guides on here ;)

£1000 should get an offload statue no problem. If you after something that moves about a bit, you may need to pay more or roll your sleeves up.

Dont rush into it there are still good ones to be had.
It really is the wrong time of year to buy as the demand will be high at this time of year.
I got mine a couple of months ago and it was a damage repaied some years ago.
It had all the welding done before I got it and is in fair condition just needed a belt and a good service.
It has newish modular wheels with Insa Turbo tyres fitted.
It has 6 months test and I paid under a grand for it.

Bargains do come up, £1000 for a fender with a short mot and needs a bit of love isn't unheard of.

As said, hold off until the risk of snow has gone and they will be loads of discos about that are within budget. Good luck with the hunt.

Plenty of Disco's, I have a hilux I need shot of as well as have just replaced it with a 110. I know it's not a LR but ticks all the other boxes.

get a green one.

I like green ones.

you should be able to find a good disco 1 for a grand. myself and my brother and a friend all did. theyve needed a little bit of work along the way, theirs more than mine! - a bit of welding here and there, a new boot floor perhaps, but nowt insurmountable.
