Ive bought a couple of the Numax batts everyone talks about and im setting about planning how i want the system setup. ive put together a wiring diagram so that i can show an auto-electrician and get a quote; but i thought id ask the big brains on here whether what ive put down is any good - or complete cobblers! :D

EXT AND = External anderson connector for jump leads
VSR = Bluesea automatic sensing relay for battery charge/discharge
4-POS BUS BAR = Those metal bars with 4 posts which you can use to tidy your electrics
12-DIST FUSED = A 12 way fuse box for connecting ancilliraries

Ive got no fuse for the winch, just a big ass isolator - is this right?
Ive got the main chassis earth going to the bus bar before the battery, is this right? as surely this means ill have max 350a total loading - should be enough?

It all looks correct to me in terms of wiring and fuses etc.

Do you need 2 x 12 way fuse boxes though? you only have 8 connections in use, are you really going to need another 16 ways of power? and if you do need it, your going to need to run cabling big enough to handle whatever it is tour going to use it for.

Or have i not understood the diagram properly?

yeah your right, and its probably OTT tbh. Just didnt want to get an auto-electrician to do the job, and then have to go back later for an upgrade. i might well just get the one 12 way unit, or maybe 2 x 6's. other idea was to have one of the fuseboxes in the rear of the vehicle, and one in the battery tray.

depending which fuse boxes you're intending to use, i'd use 2 6 way units, bit better load distribution...
 
thats very similar to what i have. think if you shop around you'll get it cheaper though. im sure mine was around £25 from Ebay.
 
turns out my breakdown over xmas was due to my alternator failing, not the battery..... how do i knows this???? i broke down again yesterday in exactly the same way but with bran new battery attached lol.

serves me right for not having the alt checked out i guess.... all sorted now. bran new 70 amp jobbie fitted for £70 + £20 labour.... could have done it myself but couldnt be arsed in this weather.
 
I just spent £100 on bits for my dual battery setup:

and a voltage meter which will monitor both batteries, lots of little switches, really heavy duty wiring, split charger relay, etc. (the usual bits from the shed basically!)
