That is a pic form my rebuild after the engine fire (Thread LINK) which was done in a friends barn. The old tyre belongs to a fordson standard N which has been in his family since the 60's originally used on their farm in Wales, and now on his farm in warwickshire. It still runs and drives but is now enjoyment and shows rather than working.

Very nice. Those little tractors and often their Land Girl drivers did much to keep Britain from starving in WW2.
Neighboring farm still used one in the 60's. I drove it some as a youngster and had to stand both feet on the combined clutch/brake to get it going/stopped.

You raise some very good points, Squonker - and you're perfectly correct. And I like your suggestions for the front end. Why did I buy a vehicle that wasn't what I really wanted? Limited choice, basically. I'm on the Isle of Man; smallish population so vehicle choice is rather limited. You have to take what you can get. But I did want a LWB County - only not a blue one. I always fancied the classic dark green ones. However, I suppose the fact that this was originally Crown property which the Queen attended gymkhanas and whatnot in compensates for that in some small way. Might make it easier to sell one day, too.

I get it - I didn't mean to sound that harsh! Dark green is also my favourite colour for a Defender. And yes, being owned by the Queen can't do any harm to the re-sale. Is it worth trying to find a photo of her driving it, I wonder? Cheers.

Very nice. I do some agricultural shows during the summer and ended up becoming a fan of the Field Marshal Series II. It has a kind of pugnacious vibe to it; a good, strong looking workhorse which just chugs along all day with that massive 5 litre single cylinder engine never missing a beat. Most impressive.

I'm sure there are scores of photos of her driving it or being driven in it in old copies of Horse & Hound, Country Life, Majesty and so on magazines back in the early 90s, but I'm not going to be hunting them down just because of that. I have better uses for my time! :)

Hi all,
Here's the 1989 110 Safari I bought recently. As you can see it's in a bit of a state, but has been booked in for a full valet at a cost of five hundred and fifty quid next month. It should polish up fine because I tried some compound out on the 12 square inches you can see just above the nearside headlight and it came up shiny. I would have done more, but it was 24 degrees that day and I quickly became exhausted.
Anyway, my question is: what else can I do to boost its appearance? Bull bars? Bonnet mounted Spare wheel? A row of spotlights on the roof? An extra set of headlights? I'm clueless, so your assistance is required here.
Cheers,

Wraparound period bullbars, black grille and black light surrounds and she’ll look mint.

I would agree as that is my preference. But as there is already holes drilled in the wings for the separate headlight guards I would
Be going guards and a-bar.

@Landlover99 it may not be a cosmetic change. But I would fit a set of these: LINK. Best single mod I have done to mine and make a huge difference. And the holes are already in the bulkhead to run the pipe as the left hand drive wiper mounts.
