hi all so in the last few weeks ive had :- head skim new head gasket , water pump, cam belt & thermostat all sounds good:D went out the weekend going down the motor way thinking this is running well:) when it started missing almost as if the car cut out then start strait back up:doh: then it just cut out  costed on to the hard sholder, getting an ear full of the mrs:mad: tryed to start it but turned over but wouldnt start:eek: couldnt hear the petrol pump priming sat there for a wile as the mrs went in to panic mode, turned ignition on pump primed and away she went:) got off the motorway and went back roads home cut out 6 times same thing made it home thank god:) went to the scrap yard next day got a new pump thinking sorted:D went to change them over to find the wire blocks were different:doh: had a chat with a mechanic friend who said cut the loom off the one at the scrapy and wire it in to my loom:rolleyes: did this tryed it all working well so put it all back together went for a drive petrol light on so put £20 in but light still on and the gauge goes to the start of the red but no further:confused: took the pump out again to c if the float was trapped but all ok tryed the old float but still wouldnt work:confused: any one got any ideas please

When you had the 'new' pump out, did you try and move the float manually to see if the gauge position changes? I am guessing that possibly the float pick up is faulty on the new pump - unless you have wired it wrong - have you checked the wiring diagrams on RAVE to make sure your connections are correct?

didnt check to see if it worked but there are 4 wires 2 black 1 green/black and i think white &purple so just wired them like for like although the 2 black wires if swaped around the pump wont work so im guessing its wired up ok cant understand why it moves when the ignition is switched on but only goes to the bottom of the red:confused:

did different versions of the sender have different resistances ?

eg. the later dashboards were can-bus signalled via the ecu, but the earlier ones were the conventional set up.
