does any one know how to tell what prekins is what. i have put one in my 88 series 1 and want to service it, but dont know which type it is?

From what I know it is supposed to be on the block under the Injector pump. You can't see it from above you need a mirror and torch. If you get the Full No I will Identify it for you and tell you the exact cubic capacity for you. Mine is a 4203 which means the 4 means its a 4 cylinder and the 203 is the cubic inch which converted is a 3.3 Litre.

In fact a 4203 is a 3330cc engine.

Didn't seem to be a number there on mine, but there did appear to be one further back and scarily not that hard to read....

Looks like 7940103371 at the top with 4K93 02 underneath that and 27 underneath that.

Is this the number I need or do I have to try and get the injector pump off?

OH Dear.....

So let me just check this out you have Series 3 with Perkins Engine,
Series 3 with Sherpa Engine, Series 3 with Peugeot Engine, Series 3 with Land Rover engine and you dont know how to check to see if its the right No. Humm. Only joking. Right this post is years old so I aint going to read it all over again. I found my Engine No behind the Injector pump with a small mirror like it says to do all over the net if you look. Give it a good steam clean and try again behind the injector pump. Took me about 30mins to get mine jotted down. Can I ask why ya need it?
Its a top engine the perkins. I fit 90 diffs and then it still needed a overdrive which I am just about to put on Ebay. They pulling top dollar now. Good luck with the engine No and I am here if any more questions.

It runs nicely, but the documentation etc isn't correct and its not staying around this landy so i'd like to get the information so I can advertise it properly.

The series 3 with the landy engine is a rescue from a field, the one with the sherpa is my daily drive, but will fail its MOT most heinously the peugeot I got from a friend and will be my new daily drive. The one with the perkins was going to be my daily until my mate said he was selling his....it will be for sale as soon as I have collected the info....I'm overdrawn to the tune of at least 1 landy!

2 weeks ago I only had 2 the sherpa and the field rescue.....kind of short of space as well!!

I had 4 landys last summer but needed to get rid so I only have 2 now both 300tdi 110s. Hope you find the engine No it is there behind the pump and hard to see but you do need a mirror. Its on the block not the pump.
