Hi All,

New to the forum and hoping for some quick advice or guidance.

Just come back from a day out in today's glorious sunshine and after parking up on the drive, found that the passenger side door electric window on our 1993 2.0 MPI Discovery will only close half-way and then stops.

It is just the passenger window and all other windows are fine. The motor appears to be ok.

Does anyone know what could be causing this or where to look to fix it.

Thanks.
Phil.

Is the motor still spinning or does it stop like it would when its fully shut?

If the motor is still spinning then there is a problem with the actuator, this is a toothed arm driven by the motor which moves the window, if the motor is spinning then the chances are that the actuator and motor have somehow stopped running together either the actuator has slipped because the spot welds are coming loose and the gears are becoming to far apart, or teeth are damaged etc...

If the motor is stopping dead, it could be the actuator has slipped the motor, and its coming to its end stop or a point on the actuator that is essentialy acting as an end stop.

Many thanks for your info.

It is your latter point where the motor has physically stopped and acts as if the window is fully closed.

We have taken off the internal panel and waterproof polythene cover and can see the lifting arm, motor and mechanism but I would guess that this is not something that is easily fixed.

Phil.

My drivers side comes up half way then stops. If I pull the window itself back towards the back of the frame (ie away from the windscreen) it comes up OK.

An update to the thread.

After closer inspection we discovered that far right hand corner of the retainer where the glass sits in was bent and was catching on the bottom of the motor unit on its way back up.

A pair of pliers to bend the glass runner straight at this point cured the problem.

I am wondering if the last poster has the same issue.

Many thanks for all your replies.

Regards
Phil.

will do. dont know when tho. Do the door cards come off OK? Mines the ES with lots of fancy trim I dont want to mess it up but it does sound like I have the same problem.

My o/s glass did the same thing, on removing the trim I found that the metal channel that is attached to the glass was rotten and had split causing it to foul on the motor arm. With it persistantly raining at the time I wedged it up in place and took the car through to my workshop and made a new channel, I then checked the n/s one and found that to be in the same condition so made and replaced that side aswell.

this is really not goin to help very much.... but it has to be said!!

DONT OPEN IT THEN!!! lol lol

sorry, ill get my coat!! hehe ;-)
