I have a LONG thread running about wife's little Hippo on this forum. So I decided to start another thread with another question (unrelated to my original one amigo F4 question).

The ONLY interior blemish this thing has, is the scratched pass airbag cover! Why? Well,....the old folks that owned it, traveled to the mountains with a pooch in their laps! So the pooch scratched the cover (most likely had its paws on it at all times).

Is this cover replaceable, and how? Since I have another parts Hippo, with unblemished dash, I'd like to swap this cover if possible.

Thought I'd ask. Searched the forums, and didn't come up with anything.

Advice appreciated.

IGNORE THIS!!!
I believe its just a cover. The airbag is mounted behind it. But too be on the safe side I would disable the airbag first. A thin blade around the edge should pop it out.

Ignore that!!! I was thinking of another car I had, sorry.
Its held in place with quite a few screws and stuff. You have to remove various bits of trim and stuff to get it off and you can't isolate it. Unhook the battery and leave for a good 10 minutes to let the capacitors drain before messing with it.
You may have to replace the whole unit unless you can wangle the cover off.

The passenger airbag comes as a module. The trim cover is integral with the module. You have 2 options. 1 find some plastic trim pain and repair the damage. 2 replace the module. Is there a better module on your other parts Freelander?

Yup, the parts car has the unblemished airbag. I Googled "how to", and found the way this is removed (complete airbag with its cover). The only question remains, is........will this mess up ECU, and trigger SRS warning or not? Does the replacement airbag need to be 'programmed' to the car?

I guess it's two questions! :scratching_chin:

No. But you need to disconnect the battery negative terminal for at least 10 minutes before disconnecting the air bag multi plug. Reconnect the battery after fitting the air bag module. No warning lights should show.

I removed/installed "few" airbags in my time. Most recently I was installing wood steering wheel on wife's S430 (she just likes the feel of wood), so I'm pretty versed in this. When I attempt to remove the airbag, I go a step further,.......I disconnect both terminals, and cross them. This discharges the capacitors in 30 sec or so (I leave them crossed for much longer!). Never had an issue. I think I did the steering wheel replacement at least 10 times since the airbags became the norm. I just don't want any more "warning lights" on the dash!
