When I go to full lock on either side of my 1995 D90 300 the steering shudders. Had a look at some older posts and the indications suggest a PAS pump on the way out or air in the system (or both). Any polite(ish) suggestion on trying to determine which please?

you could pressure test the system,and if airs getting in its either very low oil or pump

it might be easier to get another pump unless you have access to the kit needed

try bleeding and renewing the fluid first. for a tenners oil its worth it. Dont be tempted to use any of that 'power steering' stop leak/improver ****e as it will screw up the pump and potentially the rack!

Ive got a spare pas pump off a 200tdi, they are all the same I assume, worked fine I just removed it because I thought it was leaking (it wasnt it was the PAS pipe above it!)

Thanks guys. Will try the bleed and renew tactic first and if that doesn't work Harry I may take you up on your offer.

After investigation it would seem the tyres are rubbing againt the radius arms - Disco wheels fitted to my D90! Seems I need some spacers not a new PAS!:doh:
