My Defender has been hand painted in the past in satin black and it makes the car look a lot rougher then it is. Therefore Ive got some synthetic paint in black to give it a going over. Sadly its an outdoor job under a carport so Im weather dependent but seeing as its starting to brighten up lately Im wondering if anyone with experience knows if its getting anywhere near warm enough for it to produce a decent ish result?

I'm in the same position, I emailed militaryvehiclepaint.co.uk about spraying my 90 outside and they sent me this...

1. Temperature, low temperatures will slow the drying sped therefore the higher the temperature the better but anything above 10C will be OK but a little slow.

2. Dew Point, this is the most important thing to take account of. The dew point is the temperature at which the overnight dew evaporates in the morning and the reduced temperature at which it re-forms in the afternoon. At this time of year the window of time is approximately 10.00am until 2.00pm but it will vary with the weather.

Therefore to spray outside at this time of year all the preparation needs to be done and the equipment ready early in the morning so when the surface is nicely dry you have around 4 hours to complete the spraying before the dew point re-appears.

Why not get some plastic sheet and close up your carport and hire a space heater?

ive just got an infrared patio heater and it works a treat when spraying.

Its the usual thing with me. id like to get a heater etc but its sometimes a matter of getting the prep done and waiting to get a few hours between work, kids, dogs, house etc.I might end up doing it in bites I suppose, the back door one day, wings another etc.
