I have got an ugly series IIA which ive just put a new engine in and it's just started to run, but now i want to paint it as the roof is blue, and the main part of the car is green, and to be honest, it looks ridiculous. I quite like the black and silver type paint on the tomb raider defenders:

I know a series could never look quite as good as that, but i reckon i should try. But to get that glossy look, i don't quite know how to paint it. I've got access to a mates compressor, would i need a heated garage? would i need to laquer it afterwards? how much would the paint cost and what paint would i need? as you may guess im pretty clueless when it comes to painting,

You've got it all wrong. Nothing looks as good as a series Land Rover - they are perfect! If you don't believe me, take the roof and side windows off, fold the windscreen down, then drive around town past some Porsches or Ferraries and see who gets the most attention.
 
okok, i know they look good when they have their roofs off, but at the moment half of its blue and half of its green, and i really need to paint it but can afford to get it done properly so i have to do it myself, but am totally lost, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

you could just paint the roof white , the proper white that is , a 2a dont wonna look new cos they look good with a bit of wear . you can just hand paint it and it won't look out of place ......

post some piccies then we can see .....

I think he is right, I got a gallon of matt green from the army surplus and if you get one of them mini rollers, a good quality one and take your time with light coats it will look smart.

The army stuff cost me 25 quid for a gallon, and it's enough to do it twice so half a gallon is enough. Watch though because it's water based and it dont like rain although it does dry dead quick. But whatever you do dont try to one coat it, just mist it with light coats.

Well... it would take more than a lick of paint and some new springs to fix her weatherbeaten complexion and sagging rear end, but I would not go so far as classifying her as a thing.;)

there's loads of threads on painting, if you do a search they should come up, some folks have gotten amazing finishes with rollers and a brush!! try searching the deepender bit an all......
 
That isnt a Tombraider Defender thats a 60th aniverary :D ..

I painted my 2a Masai red late last year in my Unheated garage in the frost and snow using a Compressor and cheap spray gun. This is the finished result..

Its not perfect and hasnt had enough paint on the wingtops. And the panels are a little ****ed, But I thought there was no point replacing them :rolleyes:
 
Thats awesome Matt! Not far off the colour of my 2A when its clean.

Its very tempting to make mine look shiney as all the panels are surpisingly straight. But I also quite like the beaten used look :)

Well just paint it then and I'll send the wife down, wif the dogs. You point her in the direction of some woods, and I'm certain it will come back beaten and used. Might not come back mind you but I could put money on at least a couple of bits to be missing, and modified. She dunt understand why trees dunt move out of the way like people do.

She's move effective at deforestation than napalm.

Thank's :cool: .. The other side has some rather beaten panels lke the outer wing has loads of dents and that, And the door has pop rivets and is full of filler by P-O but they will be getting replaced soon anyway.

I was going to paint my 109 safari black and double cab it, I was thinking going down the Gloss Black route, Im not keen on Satin that much and Matte is a no go, Or it looks like a chalkboard and everytime you catch a finger nail on it, It'll leave a white score :rolleyes:
