Been pondering the options on wrapping or painting my landy. Gonna be taking the fairing off a friends motorcycle soon and we were thinking of wrapping it in vinyl (will get some and practice on a few things first). If successful was thinking on moving onto my landy but the problem is the paint job I have is mottled, think like the texture of paint you get on old steam trains. It's a fairly shabby job, the paint below hasn't been sanded down first so if I put vinyl straight onto that paint I would presume that texture would come through the vinyl.

If it was sanded down first (or paint stripper used?) would the vinyl then be able to grip the surface? Paint would be too messy as it would have to be done on my driveway. Other than that what are my options? Maybe anyone knows some decent painters or vinyl appliers in the north west?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Also need to talk to a mechanic about my chassis, whether it would be cheaper saving mine or getting a new one, I have seen some on the forum in a much worse state that have been saved.

be careful what stipper you use, its alloy remember...
vinyl is ok, but if you use yer landy properly, it will scratch/rip bits off, then water will get under and bubble it.
it also has a limited life span, it fades over time as well.
is it the whole vehicle that's mottled, or just in areas?? if its the whole thing, I presume somone thought it might be a good idea to texture paint it, that could be an arse to get rid of, its need a lot of time with an orbital sander to smooth it down before painting.
why would painting be messy, theres alot of good finishes on here by using a roller.

I have seen the military green ones done with a roller and they look good, I really want that glossy black look like the svx 60th anniversary ones had. I don't do anything stronger than green laning, my landy is my main drive as well so if I #### anything up I can't travel anywhere. I hope to get a doss around one sometime in the future that I can do wading in and more extreme stuff.

I used the good old fashioned black hammer to replicate the black vynal look on the roof my mini years ago :)

im half way through wrapping mine in white, did do it in lime green but the mrs threw a wobbly haha. whichever way you do it, you will have to prep it first, bubbled paint etc from oxidising and rust will show up also any harsh scratches. the joy of wrapping instead of painting is its easier to do 1 panel whenever you fancy it
