Hi, I have a rear quarter to paint on my discovery but there is no paint code on the plate so I phoned Land Rover but they said they don’t have any data for my car and told me to google “Historic Vehicle Register” and they would be able to give me the paint code. I have tried googleing but couldn’t find anything relevant. Has anyone used this service or know what the link is?

Cheers
Ian

If you take your car to a vehicle paint supplier(company that supplies local bodyshops etc) they will be able to use a swatch on it to find the colour & shade .

Planny , well at least that narrows it down to seven from what , 10,000 possible colours ?

Cheers guys,

It’s the one on the left in the picture, its a 1994 200tdi although it was registered in 1995

The other one is my palls and doesn’t have a paint code either if you happen to know it as well, its an R reg 300tdi but I’m not sure what year.

if its a decent paint supplier that mixs paint , then they will have a scanner which scans the colour of your landy, and will be able to mix some paint for you.:)

Yes I agree with 1spin, If you find a decent paint supplier they will find the colour, sounds like the one you've been to aint got a friggin clue. I will ask the paint lads at work what colour Blues we did on that model of Disco & post back.

Cheers guys, they are a good paint supplier just a bit old school. It was maybe the wrong time to go in as they were really busy but the old guy still cam out to the car with books of swatches just couldn’t find a match. A complete list of the colors for that year would be great as it should narrow things down a bit.

Cheers again.

Well if there a bit old school , they aint going to have a £5000 scanner.. you need to go to a paint supplys that does all the big bodyshops in your area.. you could spend the next week looking through colour chips and get no where, if there was only one shade for that colour , there might not even be a chip for it. also depends whats colour chips he is looking through , ie make of the paint scheme.... i have been a painter for the past 25 years , trust me get it scanned and save all the hassle...;)

I went in to Dingbro and got them to scan the car but it couldn’t find a match so I went back to the same place I started armed with the list from the above post (thanks Discool) and spent about an hour and a half going threw swatches and checking on the computer. The problem was that the same color code from different manufacturers turned out to be a totally different color when we held the swatch against the car. A couple of times we thought we had found the right color but when he went to mix it there was a pigment required which was no longer available so we would check another brand swatch of the same color and it looked totally different.

In the end I settled on Ionian blue, it looked very slightly darker than the car but was as close as we could get. It is a pearlescent paint which my painter tells me can come out slightly different every time it’s painted even from the same tin so I will just have to wait and see. Its got to be better than a panned in panel however it comes out.

Cheers again everyone for your help.
