Hi all, I have a problem with my 1999 P38 Diesel. I changed a few old fuses today as the ABS one had blown (thought it was a good idea at the time). Now the average mpg, trip counter etc all show zero and the starter doesn't work. If I put 12v to the solenoid it cranks and starts. I believe Relay 16 should click but it doesn't, I tried swapping it with several others and still no joy. I've tried it in Park and neutral in both high and low range.
It starts & drives absolutely fine as long as I start it by putting 12v to the solenoid thin lead. Does the BECM need to be reset? Help!

More likely you have a duff relay or fuse box. Do a site search, lots of threads on the fuse box, it's common failure item.

Your codes are out.

The becm ems code has altered itself & needs to be reprogrammed.
You can buy a P38 deisel resyncer from ebay that will sort the problem out!

Doh !! Fuse 40 had blown, it's shown as unused on the fuse box cover but RAVE shows it as diesel starter motor / EAS. Put a new one in and now she's fine. I thought the maxi fuses were used for the starter motor but it looks like F40 powers Relay 16 which in turn uses the maxi fuse for the starter. Thanks everyone.

^^^ wot Data says. The fuses didn't blow for no reason especially a 40A maxi. You need to investigate further. My money is on the fuse box.
