Hi. I'm a new member and have a simple question (so expect to have the **** taken)... Looking to buy a diesel P38. I've found a 2001 County diesel. What does the 'county' bit mean - I'm guessing it relates to the trim/equipment options.

Also I want to get the vehicle inspected before buying it. Is an RAC survey any good or would I do better finding a local independent land rover specialist? The car for sale is near to these guys: Sussex Land Rover and 4X4 Elliott_engineering who will do an inspection for £120. Has anyone got any experience of them?

Any advice appreciated. Cheers!

county is lowest trim but thats ok i have one. where are you maybe some body off here would go with you to look at it.

County,DT, DSE, DHSE, VOGUE with the diesel engine or 4.0, 4.0SE, HSE, VOGUE in petrol, plus a raft of specials, Westminster, Holland & Holland, Linley etc.

There are plenty of looking to buy posts on here that will give you some good info on what to look for when buying. My advice is take a list with you, its easy to forget things with the excitement of a big shiney thing in front of you.

me i like the 99 one best new engine air bags done, but after saying that i would like to know how many miles that new engine has done....

The first one looks ok, nice colour, but for that money you should be looking at a lower miles DHSE with all the toys, electric seats ,Harmon Kardon sounds, sunroof, better trim etc.

I would avoid the second one as it has the wrong wheels on it, fitted with spigot rings - a bodge in my opinion, but that is just me.

what's wrong with spigot rings? If I wanted to take off the 20 inch wheels and replace with 18 inchers from ebay that wouldn't be a problem would it?

Sounds like you have your head screwed on. My thoughts are that if someone can fit Ill fitting wheels like that the they are a bit of a messer and who knows what else they have compromised. My opinion.
