hi,can anyone help me.r/rover p38 4.0 v8.
driving along 2day,everything o.k when all of a sudden temp.gauge shot into red and car started to boil up.stopped engine immiediatley and lifted bonnet. coolant header tank boiling and escaping through overflow pipe.allowed all to cool and filled coolant tank again.no leaks and all hoses seem good.checked oil and all o.k. ran car again and all seems good.any ideas?

Was AC on at the time and if so were electric fans working?

hi,no a/c on but heater was blowing cool air ok. had done about 40 miles like this

hydrocarbon test is the first thing to do!

sorry if i sound stupid,this is my 1st r/rover,but how do i go about a hydrocarbon test?

take it to a mester and ask him!!! its a garage test kit that looks for products of combustion in the coolant, prolly around £20

many thanks to everyone who gave me advice on my wee problem car is now away to have 2 new h/gaskets and the heads skimmed. heres hoping to the end of my problem and many more troublefree miles in my trusty r/r
