p38 mike

Hi,just bought a mint p38. ownership started well with a blown water pump after 50 miles.
Now i seem to get an intermitant power steering failure when turning right which clears after a couple of good yanks on the wheel. Is this a pump problem or air lock etc.can anybody help?

I hope it's not a steering box problem as they cost a few bob, a good way to test it is to get the front axle up on axle stands and twirl the steering back and forth without the engine running. It should turn easily and smoothly from lock to lock back and forth. If you feel resistance in the same spot as you have then it is likely to be the steering box! This is also a good way to feel if there is slack in the system too.

This sounds like the pump on it's way out.

Check for foaming in the resovoir or overflowing signs around the cap.
