Hello all at landyzone, Ive been a member for quite a while now solving my problems with all the past threads, but now i got a problem i cannot fix and have no idea, so its down to you guys and all your expertise.
I have a p38 dt 95 the problem is at slow speed when deccelerating im getting like a clonking noise comming from the engine or it could be the underneath, this doesnt happen when accelarating.
Ive checked the engine mounts they seem ok, but im not sure im checking them correct. Does anybody have any idea what the problem or problems are, and can you help. I would be really gratefull...............CHEERS.

If you drive with the windows open does that help with trying to locate where its coming from??

Is it a single clonk or multiple 'clonks'??

Hi wills, its just a single clonk and it sounds like its comming from the engine area..................cheers.

Does it shake the vehicle at all?? Im wondering whether it might be a gearbox fault or something along those lines. Does it always do it at the same point when slowing down?? Auto or Manual?? One thing to try and figure out is for definite where its coming from.

Find a quiet empty country lane thats long and straight and drive up and down it a few times and see if you can pinpoint when it exactly happens. Does it happen still if you get upto speed, then shift into N and slow down, does the clonk still show then??

anti roll bar bushes......... do the kirb or speed bump test. if it knocks on any of these , chances are it them..... £15.00 pair from the steelers , pattern , £10.00 pair.
worth a check

sorry fr the delay chaps, had trouble with the server. when im going slow with foot on the acceleratorits ok, but when i take my foot off ( even only slightly) it clonks and it feels like the engine is thumping. can anyone tellme how to test the engine mountings, any help would be really helpful. thank you very much in advance...................cheers.

sorry wills, its a manual and it feels like a thump at the engine.

Hi jacksongeezer,

I have the same symptoms. Right now there are so many thing on the "to do" list that i live with it.
Keep us inform if you find it

i think its the same as what mine does, i think its just the dual mass flywheel to be honest, as you take your foot off, it takes the strain off the spring in it and it clunks back to where it was.

Strange because same symptoms but with an Auto
