hello fella`s has anyone changed the hockey stick bushe`s on the front axle , i done loads on the classics but never a p38 , just wondered what sort of job it is before i start cheers.

Im going to do mine this weekend. from the chaps in the workshop it appears its a sod of a job, To get the old ones out you have got to cut both sides of the bolt with a hacksaw, then you have to dismantle 90% of the stearing links to get the hockey sticks out. Then its a mater of pressing the old bushes out of the sticks. to fit the new ones you need a special tool to expand the new bush to get the bolt in or something along these lines.
I will know more after i have done the job and will let you know how i get on.

For a radius arm tool from Dingocroft (Penn Rental Service Ltd t/a) Other tools
£109 for a 10 ton hydrolic press from ebay (fantastic bit of kit that is) new bushes and bolts (along with the rear bush at the chassie mount) and I am still quids in compared to dealer prices
As I am changing my Panhard rod bushes, drag and steering links Most of the front will be off anyway.
As for expanding the bushes to get the bolt in it seems an odd one as the bush is the normal metal outer rubber in with betal bolt tube center.
I did flick through the service manual and it just said about the tool to correctly seat the bush in the radius arm if memory serves.

Got my bush tool through today and it is top quality, the main hollow cylinder is tapered to compress the bush as it is inserted and the main bung has a spigot to locate in the center of the bush but is recessed so the tool oly pushes on the outer of the bush.
You can also insert the plate with the long spigot into the new bush as it buts up against the other spigot of the top plate so you can shove out the old bush as you press in the new one.
Seems the drag link needs to be removed and maybe the rollbar link (although if you can get to the bolts you might be able to swerve that one), also the highet sensor needs to be disconnected from the radius arm.
No mention of bolt cutting, just undo them, and from looking at the new bushes and bolts although a tight fit I can't see any issue with taking them out.

changed my hockey stick bushes today. I had to remove the panhard rod and drag link in order to get the hockey sticks out. 2 of the bolts came out no problems. but 2 had to be cut twice as the inner part of the bush had seased onto the shank of the bolt. Took me about half a day. And with the aid of a 10 ton press and the proper tool to compress the outer of the bush when fitting. all went without a hitch.
It has completly transformed my vehicle and quired my vibration and steering wooble completly.
Right onto the next job!!! O the joys!
