Hi guys,

Anyone any idea how to easily remove stupid silver plastic caps covering the wheel nuts please? trying to change rear pads to no avail, the plastic tool remover already broke.. would a standard multi wheel brace do the job?..

Hi CEZ1869,

Only the locking wheel nut has a cover, this is the one with an indent on the face of it. The removal tool is quite cheap to relace from Ebay or LR dealer. The plastic tool just pushes on to the locking nut cover and a smart pull removes the cover (it just pulls off). Then just push the cover through the tool after using it to remove the locking nut cover from the tool. The others are removed just with the wheel brace, ie no covers.

Good Luck,

I thought i had this problem a while back, they are not covers. Look like it and are loose but just put a socket on them as if it were a normal wheel nut.

Cheers guys, the standard single wrench that comes with car won't fit over them, which led me to believe they all come off, but when I had a new tyre on front the guy just took all nuts off with his air gun & left caps on..

I had the same issue with my parents' Disco - the wheelbrace with the car wouldn't fit the nut cover things. The one from my Rangey did though so I gave them that as I've changed wheelnuts and it won't fit mine now.

The problem is that water gets in between the chrome cover and the steel wheel nut underneath it. The steel rusts and the wheel nut expands so that the wheel brace won't fit. Unfortunately you either have to replace the wheelnut or use a bigger socket. Cheers. John
