Hi all

I need to replace the wood trim part that goes rond the edge of the auto gear stick the part that holds the ash tray and cigar lighter.

what is the best or easy way to do this please ?

thanks in advance.

Tony:)

If it's walnut you could buy those stick-on bits. Personally I wouldn't, I just don't like the idea. Alternatively you could buy a replacement panel.
RangeRoverBreakers on here makes them and I've bought a few from him and been very pleased. I don't know if he'd be interested in quoting you for a repair. In fact thinking about it I don't even know if he can repair them! Give him a PM and see what he says.

Hi Dogsbody

This is detailed in RAVE under Section 76 'Chasis and Body/Repair/Centre console but if you don't have RAVE here's what to do:

Put the seats fully rearward. Open the cubby box and remove the two screws under the forward lip (beware that you don't lose the screw retainers). This will release the window switch pack. Unplug the multiplug connector for the switch pack and ease the pack over the handbrake (the slot is a bit wider at the bottom so lift it a bit).

Undo the one screw holding the walnut bit that you want out, which is revealed by removal of the switch pack. Release the console side panels which are secured by two screws each. These now need to be eased down and back to release the 'sprag clips' which secure them to the centre switch pack (tricky). You can now lift out the 'gear lever applique' which is what the bit you want out is called. As you do so, unclip the wires to the cigar lighter. If you are not changing the ashtray/cigar lighter light bulb its a good idea to do so.

Oh, forgot one thing: the gear lever applique is held at the front with two spring clips so you have to angle it by lifting the rear part up and gently easing them off. :)
