Hi Landyzone, long time no speak, maybe because I've had very few issues over the last 12 months! (Famous last words...). However, now getting ALARM FAULT popping up when inserting ignition key. Done the research, volumetric sensor changed for 2nd hand one off ebay, seller says its tried and tested and he has 100% record, however on fitting I still get the same fault message. My P38 is yr 2000 which by all accounts should have the more reliable post 1999 sensor fitted. The replacement was 1995 on the label. I'm thinking of asking for a replacement item from the seller but before I do I was wondering if the ALARM FAULT message could be down to anything else? Advice much appreciated.

It's usually down to the sensor you have replaced.

Well, got a replacement sensor from the ebay chap but still got the same fault message and when I lock myself in the RR, sit still for a few mins, then move about, none of the sensors I've tried detect movement. I guess I should be looking at wiring / ebcm connection? The ebay guy was also good enough to send me a free replacement RF receiver, could that be reason for the fault message?

RF receiver has nothing to do with the ultrasonic module.This module connects to the BECM.If the module and wiring is ok ,then you may have a Becm fault.

I'm still struggling with this problem. As mentioned before, have tried two ultrasonic sensors off ebay, no joy, however I've not much confidence they are working either, they may well have been earlier models than my year 2000 sensor I have took off.

Anyone tried the repair procedure described in rangerovers.net ...?

If I disconnect the battery and reconnect, the fault disappears for 5 consecutive starts (as described in the article) then the fault returns. Would this indicate that the BECM function side of things is working ok?

If you are trying to get the sensor to pick your movements up you will have to press the remote twice to deadlock the system this will then turn the internal sensor on, it only works in super locked mode. I had a problem like yours and after disconnecting and reconnecting the sensor it cleared the fault on the dash after a few days.

Good point, thanks, I have not actually tried super locking it to check functionality, just trying to clear the dash fault message that keeps bleating at me. I will try it.

Incidentally, I found a thread saying that the same sensor is fitted to some Rover / MG. This Rover 25 pic seems to confirm it. Me old dad has a Rover 25. I think a borrow many be on the cards
