IVE com across an odd one today,,,,dse frozen this am,hello i thought here we go,2 lots of heat fired up first time,,heh heh im well chuffed up to the farm peeing down ,kettle on ,not many shooters so coffee morning,the rangie fired up first time,dropped my mate of home ....allternator fault came up on dash oh,oh ,so home checked output 14.8v ,champion thinks i,battery well up,fault gone,goes to see son,nothing showing,,lad sez can i borrow rangie dad need some more paint frm b&q,no sweat kid of yer go ,im playing cars wiv my gson,lad comes back wassamatter wiv motor alternator fault showin dad,he gets his meter out 14.8v no loose wires that i can see, battery charging ok,,,,,,ive done a search nothing the same or similar,so i wondered if anyone else has any thoughts on it cos its got me beat it dont give symtoms like normal motor......any thoughts folks....dave ps it doesnt show all the time it just comes and goes?????
 
corrosion on bcem plug(needs cleaning) has caused this fault before-irish rover should be able to tell you more
 
Definately switch cleaner. Clean and check connections to alternator & BECM also the earth leads around the engine bay. Use one of those brass bristle wire brushes..toothbrush size and make sure the battery is disconnected first so you don't short out across pins !!
Work the BECM connectors in & out to ensure the cleaner gets worked onto the contacts.
 
THANKS lads ,sorry @ not replying sooner been to hospital with the missis,it takes it out of her so i gotta do me bit ,day to get some stuff done thurday so hopefully get it sorted......thanks for the help...dave
