Just out of interest does anyone know what the performance figures are for the 4 litre? also which is better manual or auto?
The diesel is about 14 bhp
I can see no reason why anyone would want a manual, the auto box is superb
LOL! ok that's a typo.........but it does feel like it to drive!![]()
fuel consumption between 35 - 45mpg.
So what do you tow it with ? Or do you just drop it off cliffs? For those of us living outside the UK where diesel is less than 85p/litre there is a big advantage to the DSE. Admittedly the engine sounds more agricultural than most modern diesels, but with a chip the performance is more than adequate and fuel consumption between 35 - 45mpg. Also if we have a fuel strike I can always nip down the supermarket and pick up cooking oil at 70p a litre.

I didn't believe they were capable of those figures either, but after resetting the trip computer this is my average mpg whilst pootling along at a constant 58mph with cruise control. Yes, that reads 35.3mpg, of course it drops just a bit when you get off the motorway...

Well if you want to trade fuel economy figures, I did a recent trip to France, where I ran for approx 90 miles along a dual carriageway at a steady 60mph. The fuel computer turned in 22.1mpg.
Now here's the good bit - that's running a 4.6 on LPG (multi point, fully sequential system) at 45.8 pence per litre. Based on the typical 104p for diesel, this means financially I was running at about 50.2mpg.
Now this is a bit extreme as no one drives everywhere at a constant 56, but I averaged 16mpg over nearly 5K miles according to the pooter, so on LPG at approx 50% cost of regular fuel, that's averaging 32 to the gallon. Makes the diesel look positively BAD.
Poor fuel economy AND performance, why even consider it.
I was about to mention running a diesel on vegetable oil as a counter to a V8 with LP, then the economics of a diesel look even better.
I don't have a leg to stand on about the performance difference though!
Isn't LPG used for cooking too?
Can't see that veg oil is such a cheap option anymore, unless your getting it second hand from the local chippy. Price of that has sky rocketed recently, and of course as law abiding citizens all veg oil drivers are declaring the change of fuel use and paying the appropriate tax on it![]()

I still think even running on asda's cheaest you will still pay more per mile for the privilige of poor performance and excessive noise from the oil burner, compared to the latest LPG systems
