Hi all
Hope somone can help
Iv been out and about today and when nearly home i noticed a massive drop in power not that its the most powerfull diesel ive ever owned but a drop all the same
Straight away i thought the turbo has packed up so when back i lifted the bonnet and felt the inter cooler pipes and they were both stone cold
So am i rite in thinking i should just change the turbo or is there something else i could have a go at first

Check the vacuum pipe from the underside of the intake manifold to the MAP sensor (on top of the fuel filter housing). If the pipe has come off that could cause the loss of power.
 
Check that all the pipes are secure and not split, also check the insides of the rubber pipes for delamination. The turbo is pretty reliable.

I checked all that you both had said split / unsecure / laminating hoses and found a thin black pipe just hanging from the bottom of the intake manifold so i pushed it back on the the MAP sensor and bingo i got my power back
However while i was under there i thought id have a look at the pipes anyway luckily none are split but in the inside apart from being full of gundgie ****e in noticed i could see the thread weaving ? Does this mean there way to old and thin or is that just how they are anyway ?

I recently cleaned out my Intercooler and intake manifold and you would be amazed at the difference it made to the performance. I also blocked the EGR with a steel penny and that gave me a bit more zip on the hills. The intake manifold was really ****ty and the vacuum port for the MAP sensor pipe was partially blocked, well worth doing as far as I am concerned. Good luck with it.

If you are to use any kind of solvent/hydrocarbon/ethanol/alcohol/flammable based cleaners, ensure they are throughly vented and dried before putting back on....for obvious reasons.

I used acetone to clean the intercooler and paraffin to clean the intake manifold. You can get acetone from fibre glass roofing suppliers. Dont use acetone on the plastic intake manifold. If you are going to attempt the intercooler see this

Vacum pipe is so cheap that if you're in any doubt just replace it. As for cleaning out intercooler and pipes you could just use diesel, it's fairly good at the job. Whatever you use just make sure it's all cleaned out before you rebuild.

Whilst you're playing with vacum pipe have you replaced the leak-off pipes on the injectors? Same pipe, same sort of job.
 
Thanks for the advice bill i'll give this a go as i need to change the fan and thermostat so i may aswell do it all at the same time and thanks for the link to the thread about how to do it im sure its going to come in handy
And thamks also to dogsbody i will change the vacum pipe as it is looking a bit tatty and frayed not to sure about the leak of ones but ill have a look
