Hi! Fellas...Does anybody use, or have any thoughts/knowledge of using veg.oil in the BMW engine?...I read somewhere that it is feasible as a diesel additive.

I use my own bio in my DSE with upto 70% blend with no probs.
If you are going to start using bio carry a spare fuel filter with you. Its not the bio that clogs the filter its all the ****e that normal diesel leaves in the tank and fuel lines.

Apparently the Bosch diesel pump fitted to the P38 is particularily well suited to running veg oil (its actually reported to cure the hot-starting issue). I haven't gotten round to doing myself yet but its there on the to do list. As said above I believe filters are the key

Thats known as straight veg oil or SVO. Wouldn't touch that stuff with a barge pole!!
I make biodiesel using a process called transesterification.
Go have a look at Using Vegetable oil as a diesel fuel and look for the forums. Loads of info on there for you to be confused by!

Just before you give your wife grounds for divorce go and check the MSDS sheets for methanol and caustic soda.
You may find that like most of us brewers a gap of at least 30-40 feet from the house is a better idea.

Cheers everlatesparky, I was only kiddin about the in-house refinery!...but thanks for the info and link...looks a great site. I intend to have a crack at this biodiesel production later in the year and will keep you all posted as to how I get on.

Follow the instuctions to the letter and it works quite well. Much easier to make a mess with 1 litre than 100!
