hi all im new to land rovers and new to this site please be gentle

iv recently bought a RR p38 2.5 dse had it about three weeks now and seemed fine and well untill this weekends trip down to lancaster from newcastle!!!
it ran perfectly all the way over the 69 and down the M6 untill i turned off in to lancaster then the temp went in to the red and limp mode !!
so while i waited for it to cool down (with a realy unamused wife sat next to me) a taxi driver stopped who said he had the same problem on his BMW 525 and it was the water pump
then a AA van stopped and diagnosed the same problem. buy this time the engine was cooled down so i followed the taxi to a secure parking area and went and got ****ed!!
the taxi guy had rang a landrover breaker who he knew and passed my number on so it was arranged for him to come over on sumday morn and fit me a replacment water pump (in a car park in the ****ing down rain)
however wen the pump came out it was still intact the only thing he could see was wrong was the bearing had started to push its way out
he thought this could of been causing a small leak resulting in a possible air lock ?
but while heading back up the M6 £250 lighter i stopped to check water levels etc and all was fine then just as i was pulling out the service area the same thing happened again
so same again let it cool and then headed back and all is fine but as soon as i hit traffic the temp goes red and limp mode
is it worth me changeing the thermostat and checking for a bloked pipe etc etc or should i just sit in a corner and start gently rocking

any advice would be great thanks
