Hi as you can see am a newbie.
My son in law tried to change the radio in is R/R, He blow a fuse, so he decided to look at every fuse in the car, Resulting losing the becm also engine lock out. we recoded the car,Now the engine starts, But the is no drive, The car rolls in park. Am sure this is a GM box, and works by cable or rods, can this problem be electrical? We are getting a fuse 22 failure on the dash, but the fuse is ok.

regards Bill.

+1....and it will be a ZF box that uses an Electronic Automatic Transimission Control System (EAT) using solenoid operated valves and pistons to control clutches etc :D

Fuse 11 puts the transfer box into Neutral to allow for towing thus disconnects all drive....

(and its a P38 :D:D)

Hi, Thanx ever so much replying,
1. what does 11 fuse do?
2. I was told it was a P35 lol. just what the son in law told me.:wtf:
So does the box relie on electrics?thought just for High & Low.and it used either rods or cable.
I will look and do what you say tomorrow.
Thanx again. I will let you know how i get on.:D

As I said above, fuse 11 puts the transfer box in to neutral to disconnect all drive.....

remove fuse 11 and all should be well...

Best get the Handbook - download RAVE manuals as it will have the handbook with it...

Manuals

The Main Gearbox and Transfer Box are Electronically controlled there is no mechanical governers and the shift pattern is dependant on driving style and engine torque maps....the P38 is a complex beasty

Cheers for the come back. sorry fuse 22 I should have said. not 11, just that the dash comes up with 22 failure.

Thanx for that. manual is downloading at the moment. I will have a good read! And so will the bloody son in law!!!

K, checked the beCM for fuse 11, there is no fuse there, I checked every fuse on the car, At the moment all the lights gauges are flashing and jumping about, still fuse 22 failure, As you say fuse 22 is for the front windows etc, they dont work, the rear windows do work.am not sure what to do now and where to look for this fault,I think it is more of a problem than i thought. At one stage the dash came up with altanator fault then cleared.
Can it be the beCM or the fuse box under the bonnet? am at a lost now,

Disconnect battery for a while, you might have upset something by pulling fuses.

Sure there isn't a fuse in slot 11?

Also sniff for burning in fusebox

Forgot to say: RR's don't like low voltage, make sure battery is fully charged and in good order

Yup no fuse in 11. all this started when the son in law started to mess with the radio, Then then on probs started.
Battery is tip top,I have had the battery disconected over night, this is when we had to put the key code back in. when i smell the fuse box, yes slight smell, but thought it was norm on these models.all the dash is acting the goat. I tried to trace son in laws tracks by starting at the radio, disconected it and the dash lights go out and stop flashing same if i discon the cd changer, so now am wondering, when he tried fitting a different radio he damaged the beCM or the pcb under the fuse box?
I can hear a relay under the steering wheel clicking away when the dash is going barmy. I am wondering if i should remove the fuse box and have a look to see if there is any burnning in there.

Ok took the fuse box out, took the pcb out and theres no burn marks from what i can see,

Classic? P35?? what is the car you are talking about???

Read back Keith, P38 but not sure on year or engine as yet....

My guess is damp BeCM along with duff TB ECU or Shift Motor.....

Possible FB issue, but the son in law tried fitting a new stereo and it has gone Pete Tong....so possible electrical nightmare....

Disconn. new stereo and dash behaves, but still no drive.... XYZ Switch or cable maybe??

I didn't see anything when I read it that actually stated P38, only references to BECM and fuse 11 etc that implies P38. He also say's that son in law is sure it's a GM box which implies L322.
It would be nice to be certain what we are talking about before wasting time with sugestions that may not apply.

Title says 1996....

Hi, sorry for the confusion, son in law said it was a P35, but as saint says its a 38. 1996 on a P reg,so far i have had the fuse box off the car, strip it down and found no burn marks, At the moment the dash is coming up with failures, and fuse 22 failure, the box is in neutral,I think it might be the beCM i just dont know,as i stated all this is from messing with the radio, and things have gone silly, just like the son in law:frusty: I really must thank you for trying to help me out!

The engine is a BMW, i cant say what box it is, I have looked under the car and i can see cables going to the box, but as you say it relies on electrics to run the pumps in it.

BMW engine is the 2.5 Diesel unit, this is still a ZF box 4HP22 to be exact.

The fact the transfer box is in neutral means either there is a short across fuse 11, the Transfer Box ECU is duff ( see if it smells of burning) or the shift motor has packed up.

Simple test is to remove the shift motor and manually rotate the transfer box shaft to engage Hi range...

As for your dash issue....does it stop when you remove the radio?? If so, leave it out...the P38 is a complex animal....if it still misbehaves, trace all wiring and return to original, if that doesn't cure it, time for an auto electrician to take a look.

The BeCM gets the blame for a lot of things, and more often than not, it is something else sending the BeCM into a tizzy.

Was there at any time a fuse put in slot 11?
Just wondering if its moved into neutral and got jammed (is that possable?)

No fuse was put in 11 slot. but even so. it is all the probs on the dash. fuse 22 failure, sun roof open windows not set etc, the dials & lights flickering, & the beeps all the time.
