Hi,

My range rover 3.5 carb version i use for off roading is running rich and ive been told that i need a fuel regulator as i don't have a fuel return pipe, but i don't know which one.

so..does anybody know which fuel regulator i need and how much pressure should be pushing the fuel to the carbs?

Thanks for any advice.

Mike.

It's not so much pressure that you need to feed carbs. All you're doing is filling the float chambers. I don't know what the normal setup should be on carb fed Rangies but the last car I had with SU carbs was a MG Midget. That had an electric pump that had its own pressure switch which switched the pump on and off as fuel was required. If you have a pump that's running all the time, it may be forcing fuel past the float valve and pressurising the carb so it's not only sucking petrol in, but it's having it blown in as well, hence running rich. Maybe one of the Classic boys on here that has a Carb fed Rangie will be able to enlighten you more.

Hi derek,
Thank you, yes i feel your right thats why i ve been put in the direction of a fuel regulator so that the amout of fuel that goes into the carbs is controlled, hence..no over fueling, no wastage, car runs better and lower fuel bills.....lol.

Well my day starts now, put my name forward for a bit of mashalling today after a hard days driving yesturday.

Thanks.

Mike.

The amount of fuel in the float chamber is controlled by float height. Strip carbs check needle valves are not leaking and set float heights as stated in manual.

So could this mean new needle valves?
Are they an easy part to get hold of?
I will look for a switch on the car that's linked to the fuel pump.

Thanks.

Mike.
