And so the hippo saga continues. (2001 td4 auto)

Got in the car this morning, drove about 50 yards and the yellow HDC warming light comes on (little hippo facing down hill with a ! following it), follow do a F4 from the auto box a few seconds after.

Car was fin yesterday afternoon.

It has rained a bit overnight, so going to check the auto box connectors are no wet, and I guess try to jack it up and check that the brakes ain't stuck.

Anyone else have an idea?

Damn issue has gone away now! Dunno what caused it, dunno why it's now cleared.

Oh well.

Can't afford or new car, other wise it would have gone by now......

Nope, I don't have a reader.

Weird how it just went away on its own.....

Was the F4 flashing F then 4 alternatively?
Did you lose ability to drive?
Did you drive with the F4 on the dash through all 5 forward gears?

The gear select display did F and 4 as you said, like when i got it wet once

When it does that is like its only using 3rd or 4th gear. It drives in that one gear and accelerates like a double decker bus.

This has not happened again since.

That's it going into limp mode. Auto selects 4th gear and gear change to 4th can be harsh sometimes. I would hope the auto has a fault code. Perhaps the engine computer may have one too.
