Today when driving from work my oil light flickered a few times the stayed on permanently. I give it an oil and filter change but its still the same but now dose it when cold.

Start it up it goes off for around 20 seconds then stays on.

Any idea as this is my daily and I cant be without it?

Thanks.

Could just be sender. Ive not had it on my defender but had a few other cars in the past where the light flickers then comes on. Check the connection on the sender.

youve not said what engine it is.
i had this problem on an old disco 200 a few years ago, it turned out to be the cam bushes
it could be any number of things, you really need to get an oil pressure test done before you start throwing money at it

im not 100pc sure but the oil pressure switch on most engines are on the block usually with one wire sometimes 2 you can test the wiring of the oil pressure switch by earthing out the wire which should bring on the light which will rule out an electrical fault and only leaves a fault with the switch or a genuine pressure fault,

change the sender - offside of engine, by oil filter - yu can check it by grounding the wire with ignition on, oil light will come on when grounded. I had same prob - new sender cured it.

Oil pressure switch electrical connector arrowed below on oil filter housing. Cheap and easy to replace, worth trying first to rule out failure.

But....but....but....I spent ages on that masterpiece:(
All my artwork gets filed in the special box wiv the swinging lid:)

I personally wouldn't be driving it with the oil pressure light on. Change the sender first, if it still does it, then you might have a problem that'll lead to engine damage if you continue driving it! :(

don't ask me what the problem could be, but the light is there for a reason!

May be crud in the oil pressure relief valve if its not the sender. But having said that it could be a multitude of things.
