Hi,

Does anyone know if a cheap tool like this will give me Engine ECU fault codes for a p38 DSE 2001?

OBD2 Universal Diagnostic Scan Tool Auto code reader on eBay (end time 09-Jan-11 07:02:24 GMT)

I'm having trouble with starting it when its cold, and wondering if it's the injector heaters..

Poor cold starting is likely low cranking speed / failed glow plugs / perished leak off hoses.
None of which require a diagnostic tool,just basic understanding of a crap indirect injection diesel engine.

Just as eightinavee said plus it could be the glowplug relay. Simple trouble shooting.
