1/2 inch snapon new £400,so second hand wont be cheap ,batteries £100 new ,but definately have power to shift stuff ,very useful for crank pulleys or anything that would otherwise need holding to undo
 
i have a dewalt 3/8 gun thats better than the snap on gun. 1/2 inch is a facom pretty good but had issues with batteries. the new snap on gun is good but stupid money. had a sealey and a mac tool both ok no issues till they were destroyed..
 
Thanks, Looks like the Sealey is going to be a good compromise then, I won't be using it every day so no point going all out on a Snapon i guess.
 
If it's for working at home and you've got a compressor you might want to look at air power, a fair bit cheaper.
 
in my limited experience batteries are a pain in the butt unless youre using and recharging them regular,

I did consider an air gun as i have quite a few air tools, but, it is something i want to be able to keep in the back of the landy for when things break - i don't have an on-board compressor... yet.
 
Save your money stick to air tools and buy your self a long wheel brace, if you need a impact gun by the roadside more likely it will be a major job for at home.
 
I have a Snap-on 18v one that I bought from ebay, I've got to say that it's an excellent piece of equipment, and much more powerful than my air guns (2 off) if you can afford it, get one.

Problem is my compressor is quite small and i tend to do the wheels on the road as the drive is on a slope, a battery one is just loads easier - tbh, it's all about lazyness, any job can be done manually, but, the nut gun makes it a lot easier! - On the side of the road is when speedyness and lazyness really comes into play
 
crack the wheel nuts with a pipe on the wheel brace , then run the nuts off with a socket on a cordless drill...its nearly as quick as using the brace you used to get in old socket sets.

Last comment was a good one must have a massive chuck for even 3/8 drive any ways that's why I differ not so much lazy more of a tight wad and all that money saved you could get bigger air tank with lots of goodies,like mini air grinder , well useful air ratchet lovit and more chisel the list goes on face it how many punctures do you get wink.
 
I've got a 24v snap-on version (the older type with clip up battery) which I bought in mint condition for £140 off ebay, it's never let me down yet and as previously said, is great for things like crank pulleys.

Interestingly I when I bought my last set of tyres, I asked the place fitting them why they were cracking the nuts with a breaker bar when he had a lovely air impact gun beside him. The lad told me that the boss forbids rattle guns (except for winding the nuts on/off) because over time they stretch/damage wheel studs... :eek:

It's what I do , cheap cordless drill about 5 years ago , still going strong and as it's 12 volt it works off the fag lighter as well , made a wiring loom .

That reminds me. A few years back I bought a 12 volt battery drill from B&Q for a tenner and converted it to run off the accessory socket in the back of the car. I wonder what ever happened to it?
It's probably "in the garage" and will surface again in a few years. Things do that in my garage.
