All or some of it was worked on and preserved by an army reconditioning workshop in May 1990. Though not by someone who could spell 'preserved' obviously! Is the whole engine that green colour?

Hi, Yes it looks to be the same colour under all the grime . Thank you for the bit of history .

The rest of the landrover is in a bit of a state so i think he has his work cut out on this one.

There might be a little plate riveted on somewhere saying if any work has been done, bearing oversize etc

The plate is often (possibly always but I've only seen two) where the engine number would normaly be.

Just run some paraffin over it to clean the grime should be able to see the stamps easily enough anyway

Thanks all. Will have a look at the plate to see what it says, will let you know .
My lad tells me he is going to strip it down ( engine ) sort it out & get it going again , also the landy is to be striped down but will be a couple of weeks before he starts , May post the strip and rebuild on here so you can see what a bad state it is in.
now looking for a 2/2a myself but one not as bad as his .
