Hi I have just bought a k-reg discovery 200tdi.
The starter motor will not turn the engine over but the land rover will tow start. The starter has been taken off to check it works and it works perfectly. It was refitted, all the ignition lights are on the dashboard fine yet it still won't start, only by tow or bump. We then crossed the starter motor and it will kick the solenoide but will still not turn the engine. The starter motor relay clicks.
Also the 4 electric windows will not work.

Any help on these issues would be much appreciated. This is my first land rover. Thanks

and if you do not believe James, put a known good starter on and see what happens !!

Meanwhile check the security of the earth and live feeds

The starter was taken off and tested and was fine.

There's nothing off the starter unless you cross the solenoide

did you test starter whilst it was under load ,turning an engine over is a bit harder than free spinning in a vice

When we crossed the solenoide when it was on the vehicle the solenoide spun but not the starter. But when turning the key without crossing the solenoide there was nothing, just the starter relay clicking. I agree it sounds like the starter motor but surely the solenoide would still spin when the key is turned??

you can check trigger wire has 12v when keys turned but it still has an issue if it doesnt turn engine over when you use battery feed to trigger terminal

Windows is normally the window ecu,one of the solder points usually goes to **** or it could be the switches need a clean.

When mine wouldn't work it was both
