I've been going round and round and round in circles looking for a definitive answer on my springs.

Various sources say Defender and Discovery springs are the same, Diesel and V8 springs are the same.......

Now I've fitted a 2" lift from a Defender TDi to my Discovery 1 V8 in the direction I told they came of his Defender but the front sits alot higher than the rear.

From masses of searches I seem to have found some springs that I think are them (fronts) Land Rover Discovery 1 Front Springs + 1.5 Inch Lift x 2 ( 20% uprated ) | eBay
It still had what looks like some of this writing on the top the same as this.

Now I can't seem to trace the rears even thou they are the same (with hand written markings on the top)

The rear seems to sit about an inch lower than the front, which I would have expected if 90 springs were different ratings as there is less over hang on a 90 also expect the fronts to sit higher as there is less weight on the front due to the V8 over the Tdi, but then various sources tell me they are the same fitment.

Does any one have any ideas? Am I on the right track as I would like to get it sitting level.
 
Have you got a winch? Are your rear crossmember body mounts in good nick? is the body sitting nose high or the chassis?


I thought for a good while that my rear springs had drooped, or when i changed my winch the new one was a lot lighter and thats why my nose was a little high but it turned out my rear crossmember had deformed due to rust and some heavy bumps off road, when i repalced it the whole rear end cam up by almost 3 inches and she sits lovely and level now, you need to find out if its chassis or body that is not level.
 
No not got my winch fitted yet.

Cheers I will inspect all the mounts, they looked fine when fitting the springs and it sat level previous.
 
Theses springs been compressed by being on the tdi? And the v8 is quite lighter
 
That is what I would have said but the parts I have found list them as the same numbers for Discovery and Defender, petrol and diesel.

Logic says to me that the diesel will have a heavier front end so it will lift a petrol more, with logic saying Discovery is heaver back end to this will sag more, bringing me to how it currently sits, but my logic is at a loss as to why they list the same parts for Defender/Disocvery petrol/diesel.
 
No i mean are the springs second hand ie a bit tired/ sagging after having a dezul weighing on em?
 
Not really as the front is lifted more and the rear sits at +51mm from standard.

It just looks like there is a 2" lift on the rear and 3" on the front.

If anyone can reconfirm standard ride height?
 
I put standard Disco 1 tdi front springs on my 2.5 n/a 90

Standing together the springs from the Disco were about 2inches taller than the 90 ones
When fitted the Disco springs on the 90 were sitting at the same height as standard. They ride softer than the 90 springs so will be better off road.

Some springs are handed

The drivers side front is bigger than the passenger side one and the rear passenger one is bigger than the drivers side rear if not fitted correctly it will sit uneven
 
Yes I found that bit the longer one is on the drivers side.

Its level across the axle, just front to rear.

All body amounts and cross member is fine.
