help! i have a m reg 300tdi which makes a noise when 30mph is reached,suspect something amiss in the transmission,but it still makes the noise in neutral or when the clutch is dipped,the wheel bearings seem ok any ideas anyone please?

What sort of noise? Is there any vibration associated with it?

Next easiest thing to check are the prop UJs.

thanks for the pointer andy,the uj's look ok,the noise is quite low pitched and seems to come from underneath,there is a bit of vibration from the gear lever but nothing out of the ordinary
sorry taken a long time to reply, i do shift work,body clock a bit messed up,thanks for the advice
