hi there, put this thread up on the 19j forum but thought id put it in here too just incase!

I think the rather loud tapping coming from my engine is my injectors. It slowly quietens and disappears if I slowly lift my foot off the accelerator reducing the load and then stops when engine breaking/ no load.

Any one had this problem and found a solution that dosent involve new injectors as a 200tdi will be taking it's place when I find some money.

When was the last time you checked your tappet clearences ? .

eggsatly wot I were thinking......

Had a very similar noise to your desciption....had a couple of mechanics stick their heads under the bonnet and they concluded 'sticking valve' so I got ready to whip of the head and thought I'd just check the tappets 1st.....all spot on apart from 1 with a clearance of about 25 thou :doh: problem solved

errrr never! only had her just over a month. i never thought about that one! il give it a go tomoro.
cheers guys it should tell me what the clearances should be in the haynes?

just out of interest incase i get lazy, how much should i be expecting to pay to have it done at a garage? on average..
