Noticed that when at high RPM (i.e just before changing gear on the highway) there is a noise that is coming from what sounds to be the gearbox but could be wrong. Sounds like something is loose or rolling around. Has been there for some time but has become more apparent. Has not caused any problems - yet. Anyone had this before? can ONLY hear it properly at high RPM.

dont use high revs.

hehe, indeed, but that means rediculously early gear changes and will make me as slow as a Peugeot one towing a double decker bus - which it probably cant even do.

dont be so quick to jump that the problem could be gearbox, it may sound as if its coming from there but noise travels. Check both of your props for play in the UJ's, best to completely remove them to check them properly they might feel ok on the vehicle but when taken off you will probably see that they could be seized

Mine did that, turned out to be UJ. Whole prop shaft went bang in the end.

Can you replace just UJ's or do you have to buy a new prop shaft?

you cant replace them but you can get repair kits and there only buttons to buy and there not to difficult to do, greasing them might pospone damage but they will eventually need replacing
