hi would you have the full details on how to check , set the timing mark for a 2.0 99 model freelander.yep it has a timing belt, two in total. one for the camhsaft to crank and one for other end of crank above gearbox, does the diesel pump timing.
If yer engine looks like this it's a td4 diesel - timing belt = chain
If yer engine looks like this it's a td4 diesel - timing belt = chain
If it don't look like the above, but and it's a Freelander 1 diesel, then it's a rover diesel. Timing belt = belt
td4 is 2 seconds quicker to 60mph than an L series rover diesel. td4 = 12.8s and rover L series is 14.6s. td4 is 110bhp 260Nm. rover L series is 95bhp 210Nm. Generally speaking, both Freelander 1 diesels are betterer than the petrols for reliability.
