Best way to start is by sayin' hello in the introduce yersel' bit
When ye pull the left hand lever on the dash down, does it make a noise and can ye feel any air from the top and bottom vents?

I'm Jay, new land rover owner and looking to learn to work on my own vehicle more than just oil and filters.
I do have cold air coming through, the left lever is stuck down as i've had a play and it doesnt really budge, as for the right. When i put them both up it just clunks back down!!!

Okay well your 26 miles away from me, I would suggest the basics like checking that heater controls is connected. There are lots of things you can do without taking to a dealer yet.
What does temperature gauge say normally-if always cold, then thermostat stuck open or removed.

Aye welcome anyways Jay
When ye're trying to get hot air, is this just after ye've started yer motor? If so, then ye won't really get any hot air until the engine temp has got up a bit. It does take a whiles sometimes to get up to temp... unlike some cars. Ye'll get used to it... honest
In the meantime, stick summit over yer screen to stop the frost getting to it and wear a thicker jumper

Take the cover off the right hand heater controls and make sure the levers are actually doing something. The cables should slide in and out of their sleeves just like a push bike brake cable. Grease up the small detents as they often rust and stick. Make sure the hot/cold lever is operating the lever on the top of the heater box (under the bonnet). Only way to learn is to get in there and have a look. If its not working now you cant make it any worse.
I had the same when I bought my 1988 90 a couple of months ago, and had to fit a new heater motor to fix.
Check the fuse first. If thats ok, check that you have power up to the heater box (just pull the connector apart and test with a simple circuit tester).
If you don't, you have a problem with your switch on the dash. If you do have power, then most likely your heater motor is blown (mine was).
I bought a new motor off ebay for a tenner, and it took a couple of hours to fit.
You'll need to remove the heater box to stick in the new motor, it's only held in place by 4 bolts, but it is a bit of a wriggle to get it out and back in again.
Have a go, fairly easy!!!!!

I've been without my heater for two winters now. I solved the problem the other day and now i get lovely and warm within seconds. All I did was go to my local outdoor clothing specialist, handed over £240 and they gave me a North Face McMurdo Parker.

Keep a window scraper in the cab with you, keep your window open slightly so that your breath does not steam the windows up as this starts to freeze almost instantly on the inside of the windows. I know it's fkin freezin but at least you will be able to see out the window. Yes you guessed it my heater is broke as well. Just to cold to even try to fix it at the moment

Onto the original topic, the controls have a habit of picking up crap over time as well as corroding somewhat, this will create breaks in the contacts.
If the controls on the right are ' just dropping back down ', sounds like the cables are fooked, replacements needed it seems .
