Have you checked the fuse on the relay? It's an 80 amp ribbon type. The relay is bolted to the engine ecu.

i tryed to start it with easy start it fired on it but wouldnt keep running the engine is cold it has not been started since last night is this a sign of ecu killed or is it because the engine is cold and has no glow plugs to warm the diesel to get it to keep running

Seeing as how relay 19 (Main engine control relay) as mentioned earlier supplies power to the engine ECU which in turn switches on the engine check lamp and the glow timer relay. Think you maybe as well to look at that as i said in an earlier post.
 
arh right i am with you now thanks for that. relay 19 is that one if the yellow relays in the fuse box under the bonnet?

It is indeed fed on your vehicle by fuse 37, 20 amps. You may also like to look at relay 15 ignition relay. 19 is the middle one of the three yellow relays to the left of the maxi fuses. 15 is the green relay below the yellow relay 20 next to the maxi fuses.

found relay 19 swapped it for another and still the same can the glow relay make the engine check light not illuminate when the ignition is turned on ??

Did you check fuse 37? Relay 19 supplies power to engine ECU. Engine ECU switches mil lamp and glow relay if engine is cold. If relay 19 is duff you will have no power to ECU and will have no mil lamp and no glow lamp. And the engine will not run.
 
well i checked the fueses and i swapped relay 19 with one of the other relays and all is the same no check light and no glow plug light although the first time i tryed it the engine check light did come one for few seconds then went off never been on since
 
i have just been out to check fuse 37 and relay 15 put another fuse in changed relay and still no check lamp or glow plug light

Anything is possible with a P38....

The Diesel doesn't lose sync as readily as the Petrol model...but can happen....

Common symptom depends on MY, and I cant remember which way round it is...but in some cases
- No Mil and Cranks but no start
- No Mil and no Crank
- Mil doesnt go out after bulb check and Cranks
- Mil doesn't go out after bulb check and doesnt Crank
 
well i have one of those symptoms- no mil and cranks but no start i also have no glow plug light but that could be the relay wel thanks for that think diognostics is the best way forward
 
Micky , i had the same thing happen to me, ecu case touched the battery and lost mil and glow plugs and turned over but not starting.
Try attaching an earth from the corner screw on the casing of the ecu to negative side of battery.Worked for me :)
